The Migrants’ Files

The Migrants’ Files

The Migrants’ Files was a database of people who died in their attempt to reach or stay in Europe. It was produced by a consortium lead by J++ Paris/Berlin. Other partners were J++ Stockholm, Dataninja, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, El Confidencial, Sydsvenska Dagbladet, Radiobubble, and freelance journalists Alice Kohli, Jean-Marc Manach, and Jacopo Ottaviani.

During three years, starting in 2013, we collected data and used it to shed light on government policy. Since June 24 2016 the database is no longer updated. The International Organization for Migration and others have now started their own data collection operations, and a large number of media outlets now feature these numbers regularly.

The Migrants’ Files was partially financed by Journalismfund.eu.
